What's the Buzz?

A 16-Week school readiness program for 4-5 year olds.

Join Senior Teacher Katie O’Reilly in our 16-week program, “What’s the Buzz?”, designed to build social skills and confidence in preschoolers aged 4-5. This neuroaffirming, evidence-based social and emotional literacy program is recognised as a gold-standard approach and is now used in over 100 countries and several languages. Our Director, Madhavi Nawana Parker, is a co-author of this highly regarded program.

Starting school can be both exciting and overwhelming for many preschoolers. At Positive Minds Australia, we offer a calm and gentle space for children to meet others their age who are also preparing to start school. Our small, tailored groups provide the perfect opportunity for your child to practice new skills in independence, friendship, and confidence.

Key Features of the Program:

  • Open to all preschoolers aged 4 and 5, especially beneficial for shy, anxious, or neurodivergent children.
  • Encourages social-emotional development through play-based activities.
  • Provides children with the opportunity to build confidence and develop crucial social skills.
  • Helps ease the transition to school with new friendships and enhanced independence.

Over the 16-week course, your child will engage in interactive activities designed to nurture their confidence and social-emotional wellbeing. Give your child the time and space to develop these vital skills and begin their school journey with ease.

Wednesdays 9.30 am- 10.20am (50 minutes) and 10.30am – 11.20am (50 minutes)

Each course is 16 weeks (8 weeks per term) and your investment is $1200.00 per student for both terms or $600.00 per student per term. NDIS rebates under capacity building can apply and please confirm this with your provider.

10 week Kung Fu program for neurodivergent children and teenagers.

At Positive Minds Australia, we want your child to discover their passion while developing confidence and competence in an activity they enjoy. Our 10-week Kung Fu program is designed specifically for neurodivergent children and teenagers, offering a supportive environment where they can thrive.

We understand that highly competitive, noisy, and crowded environments can be challenging for neurodivergent individuals. That’s why we pride ourselves on offering small group programs with capped numbers, allowing participants to learn at their own pace in a compassionate, supportive, and neuroaffirming environment.

Classes are held weekly on Wednesdays at our Unley location and run according to school terms. Each 10-week course costs $550.00 per student per term. NDIS rebates under capacity building may apply, so please confirm this with your provider.

Parent coaching program with Madhavi Nawana Parker.

Parenting can be challenging even in the best of times

With over 20 years of experience as a parent educator, Madhavi Nawana Parker will guide you through family challenges using evidence-based strategies that foster deep connections and effective communication within your family. These strategies aim to enhance cooperation, resilience, and wellbeing.

Course Details:

  • Duration: 5 weeks
  • Location: Unley Rooms
  • Session Length: 1 hour
  • Group Size: Capped at 8 attendees per session
  • Investment: $600.00 per person per 5-week course

    How to manage emotions and behaviour right from the start.
  • Tuesdays 11:00 am – 12:00 pm: Primary School
    How to navigate emotions, limit testing, resilience building, and friendship challenges.
  • Tuesdays 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm: Tweens and Teens
    Stay connected through thick and thin and learn how to communicate for cooperation and trust during this challenging stage of development.

Mindset and social emotional wellbeing

8 week program for 13-18 year olds with Senior Psychologist, Sam Taylor

Managing emotions and handling stress and anxiety can be particularly challenging for teenagers due to the significant changes happening in their developing brains. Coupled with social comparison, academic and social pressures, and friendship challenges, it’s no surprise that anxiety, stress, and emotional dysregulation often peak during this stage.

Program Overview: Using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), this 8-week program offers 13-18-year-olds the opportunity to develop crucial life skills to help them navigate this vulnerable stage of development. With guidance from our Senior Psychologist, Sam Taylor, your teen will:

  • Learn valuable techniques for emotional regulation, anxiety, and stress management
  • Improve confidence, connection, and wellbeing
  • Meet other young people and gain support from peers facing similar challenges

This program is particularly beneficial for those who experience anxiety, emotional dysregulation, or mindset blocks.

Special Exam Preparation Course: Sam also offers a tailored 6-week course for Year 11 and 12 students, providing mindset tools to help them prepare for exams with reduced stress and overwhelm.

Course Details:

  • 8-Week Course: $450.00 per person
    Participants may be eligible for Medicare, private health, and NDIS benefits. Please check with your provider.
  • Tuesdays, 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm: Ages 13-18
    (Ages 8-12 group to be confirmed)

Autism, social emotional wellbeing and confidence 16 week program for girls with Senior Teacher, Nikki Wadewtiz.

Our Senior Teacher, Nikki Wadewitz, brings her much-loved program to Positive Minds Australia, based on The Confident Minds Curriculum and The Resilience and Wellbeing Toolbox. This 16-week program aims to help your child celebrate who they are, understand their strengths, and build skills to become more confident.

Program Highlights:

  • Neuroaffirming, Safe, and Friendly Space:
    Your child will have the opportunity to meet other autistic girls and enjoy a sense of connection and belonging.
  • Evidence-Based Curriculum:
    The program draws on The Confident Minds Curriculum and The Resilience and Wellbeing Toolbox.
  • Supportive Guidance:
    Nikki Wadewitz will guide your child through developing essential skills for social-emotional wellbeing and confidence.

Course Details:

  • Tuesday 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm: Ages 8-12 (TBC)
  • Thursday 5:00 pm – 5:50 pm: Ages 13 and up (TBC)

Investment:

  • $1,200.00 per student for both terms (16 weeks)
  • $600.00 per student per term (8 weeks)

Clear as Mud: 8-Week Program for Children Following Family Separation with Senior Child and Youth Specialist, James Parker

James Parker brings over 20 years of experience working with families after separation, with a specialization in neurodivergence. In this supportive small group program, children can meet others going through similar experiences and find a sense of belonging and connection.

Program Details:

  • Mondays, 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm: Boys aged 10-14 (TBC)
  • Mondays, 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm: Girls aged 10-14 (TBC)

Investment: $600 per student per course
Classes meet weekly for 8 weeks.

Program Highlights:

  • Opportunity for children to share their experiences in a safe and supportive environment
  • Learn strategies to cope with and adjust to family separation
  • Develop connections with peers facing similar challenges

Individual Support Option: James also offers this program on an individual level and specialises in helping neurodivergent teenagers adjust after family separation.

5 week neurodivergence parent coaching program with Senior Teacher and Speaker, Nikki Wadewitz.

Nikki Wadewitz will guide you through your family’s neurodivergent challenges using evidence-based strategies to foster deep connections and effective communication, increasing cooperation, resilience, and wellbeing.

  • Work closely with Nikki in small, supportive groups capped at 8 attendees per session
  • Meet other parents in a warm and friendly environment
  • Gain a deeper understanding of neurodivergence and child development
  • Learn practical tools to lay the foundation for a happy family life at all stages

  • Fridays, 9:30 am – 10:30 am (TBC): Primary School
    Learn to navigate emotions, limit testing, resilience building, and friendship challenges with strategies specific to neurodivergence.
  • Fridays, 11:00 am – 12:00 pm (TBC): Tweens and Teens
    Stay connected through thick and thin and learn to communicate for cooperation and trust during this challenging stage of development with strategies specific to neurodivergence.
